Grey squirrel

The disaster prone English Empire did a lot of damage, not just to other countries, but to their own land as well. For instance in the late 1800's some idiot decided to bring grey squirrels from North America to England and as a result the red squirrel population was almost wiped out by a virus known as squirrelpox which the grey squirrels carry. I wanted to grab some photo's of squirrels, so set to a place I know where they are.

Red and grey squirrels do not interbreed, but some of the grey ones have a reddish coat. This one is small, probably born in February. It came up very close to me, at one point I reached down and it gently put it's front claws on my finger and licked it.

Prior to starting any kind of blog, I was in East Lansing, Michigan, where Michigan State University is. I was on campus sitting on a bench, just relaxing, when a jet black squirrel jumped up on the bench and sat staring as well. I spoke to it and patted my leg. It hopped onto the top of my right leg and sat down. The black squirrels are common to the campus and seem very friendly.

All very interesting.
